Why do I need a mobile friendly website?

If your website is not yet mobile friendly, the very short answer to the question, “Why do I need a mobile friendly website?” is, “Because more than half of all online traffic now comes from the mobile devices.” Recent surveys have found that more than 60% of searches are now performed on tablets and smartphones, making them the most popular way to browse the internet. If your website is not mobile friendly, you are not going to be able to reach more than half of your target audience.

Fewer and fewer consumers are searching for products or services on a desktop or laptop. Instead, they are using their mobile devices as they commute to the office or after they see a televised advertisement. Today’s consumer expects to be able to access your website from their mobile device, and if they are not able to, they will look for a competitor whose website they can access.

This means that not having a mobile friendly website could mean that you not only miss out on sales, but that you actually drive sales to your competitors.
Google Expects It

If you are using content, design elements, or images that cannot load on mobile devices, Google might decide to downgrade your search engine page ranking. Why? Because those sorts of websites do not work well on mobile devices, so search engines do not want to present them to mobile users. Not having a mobile friendly website can seriously hurt your organic search rankings, while having one can ensure not only that you retain your search rankings, but that you can beat out competitors that do not have mobile friendly sites.
